People of Fanservice, Lend Me Your Strength!

Hey everyone, it's time for a Fanservice group project!  The other day, this image popped up on the tubes:

We here at the Palace of Fun and Beauty (did I mention we operate out of a castle?) thought this was awesome, since we finally had a way to definitively show which of us had sacrificed the most of his social life to Japanese cartoons.  However, we also felt the test didn't go far enough.  There is a lot more to being an otaku than just watching anime, as I'm sure most of you know.  So, we decided to put together a custom Fanservice FTW Powerlevel Test, based on Yariku-kun's outline.  The additions include expanded anime and manga surveys, sections on merchandise and Moonspeak, and a bonus round checklist of specific anime and manga series that increase your powerlevel.

And that's where you, the Fans, come in.  We've listed some of the series we think are the best and brightest in the world, but we want a more diverse sampling.  So we've decided to let you give us your suggestions right here.  Just go ahead and post the series you think should be added to the list.  Don't worry about if they're manga or anime, and feel free to post light novel series, too.

Oh, and we're also working on a bonus checklist for specific games, but so we don't get confused about which you're suggesting (many anime and video game series overlap), only suggest anime, manga, and novels in the comments here.  If you'd like to suggest games, we've made a forum thread just for that purpose!

Here's a list of what we've got so far:

  1. needz moar boku no pico

Also, no Miyazaki movie should be on this list. He has too much global appeal. Except for maybe the Lupin movie.

  2. Nanoha, Martian Successor Nadesico, Eve no Jikan, Gurren Lagann, Outlaw Star, Gun X Sword, R.O.D OVA, Casshern, Gunbuster 2

  3. Though Miyazaki films have global appeal, this list is not meant to be exclusive to hardcore anime fans but neither is it inclusive to casual fans. We are looking for series that are considered paragons of their genre. Studio Ghibli could be represented as a bar of taste.
Gunbuster is represented by the first and not by the moelicious second one. Outlaw Star tends to be nostalgia bait. There is nothing special about Gun X Sword other than the band of mexican banditos who have a Voltron in their backyard. That is my opinion of the suggestions thrown out there thus far.

  4. I really liked “The Rose of Versailles.” (although I am a die-hard SB Yamato fan).

  5. Diebuster isn’t moelicious. You could argue that it does have moe content, but it is not at all “moelicious”. That said, Gunbuster and Diebuster pander to completely different tastes, they just happen to occur in the same universe. So they both should be included on this list for different reasons.

Okay, so, something I feel should be considered is the fact that Card Captor Sakura, Dragonball Z, Death Note, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, etc. should be removed. Yes, I do realize that these anime are sought after by anime fans, but these are also anime that would have just been stumbled upon by anyone with a television in the 90s. I know people who swear up and down that they hate anime, but loved these shows as kids.
